winning the presidents trophy certainly doesnt guarantee playoff success, but it cant hurt having home ice throughout. what's everyones thoughts on the playoffs coming up? is detroit the favorite or is there someone capable of knocking them off?

Stanley Cup is up for grabs this year. There isn't much difference between the top and the bottom of this years playoff teams. The Presidents trophy is a nice regular season award. The playoffs are a new season.

Boy isn't that the truth. I've always thoroughly enjoyed the NHL playoffs just for that reason. Will watch teams otherwise never interested in. You just never know who'll step it up.

With the rule changes this season I do feel a little better about the RedWings. I just hope the goalie stays healty because it sounds like Osgood just isn't where he used to be.

Sort of a mixed bag for the Wings...

1995- Swept in final round by New Jersey
1996- Lost in conference finals to Colorado
2002- Won Stanley Cup
2004- Lost in conference semis to Calgary

Suffice to say, the regular season doesn't matter in the playoffs.

Glad you posted that- was wondering where the Wings stood on that issue. Not too many teams who win that trophy go on to take it all.

It appears it will be Detroit vs Edmonton in the first round. Edmonton has played the Wings tough all season. Winning the first 2 games 4-3 & 6-5 in OT both games, losing to Detroit 4-3 in a shootout, and most recent 2-0.

These teams who battle for and get those last playoff spots late in the seasons are ones you have to watch out for...at least as a fan I worry about them.
