Switch Iron Mountain and Manistique and they are correct.

Why would Iron Mountain (303) be in the Large School Division and Manistique (342) in the Small School Division if you go by enrollment numbers????

Because Manistique knows that they have zero chances of winning in the large. Iron Mountain opted up to obtain more playoff points.

So basically Iron Mountain is cherry picking the larger teams they want to play. WTF has happened to that program?

...and they are trashing a 93 year rivalry....

I'm sure there are places any of this makes sense....

Manistique's AD is pathetic, could care less about developing a program. He would probably like to join a 8 man conference but keep playing with 11. It's not fair to the kids to have him there.

And Manistique will still be lucky to win 2 games most years with that schedule. They would have went 0-9 even with that schedule this year.

What I don't understand is why didn't they just play seven conference games and not do the crossover, leaving two dates open for non-conference games. Then you can keep your old rivalry games. Unless, of course, you just don't want to play those games anymore. In the words of our esteemed president: Sad!

They get out of a tough game, but it also makes the AD's jobs easier. Everyone knows that the toughest scheduling job the AD's have around this area is putting together a full football schedule. This takes care of that. 9 games every year without the AD having to do a damn thing.

I see they place Manistique's numbers at 287. I wonder if they dropped their co-op with Big Bay (I think they had one anyways) so they could be in the small division lol.

Does anyone know the logic used behind the crossover games? Are they going to rotate every year?

I know looking at it from the GNC's prospective (or any team outside the Westpac's prospective) it sucks. I hate that the rivalry games were taken away, that was completely unnecessary. But, on a bright side this looks to be a very good conference for the teams that are in it. There will be many competitive games. Calumet, WIC, Negaunee, IM, Ishpeming are all great teams usually. Westwood will have as good a chance as anyone to win the conference year one. Hancock was really tough last year along with Norway and even BRH. LLH is going to be over-matched in most games, but you can never count them out. Coach Crouch will have them ready to play and they always come out hard with an underdog mentality. I wonder how long they can keep playing 11 man football. They have to be one of the smallest schools in the state to be still playing 11 man. I think this will be a very competitive league. I wish they could have just did without the crossover games and keep 2 non conference games. Teams could have used those slots to play the other side if they wanted, but also kept rivalry games if wanted as well.

The AD's did not take time to include the co-op numbers of the MPC teams joining. Its that simple. Ishpeming's is incorrect as well.

The crossover games were to allow Negaunee and Iron Mountain to avoid Marquette and Kingsford. Let's not sugar coat this. That's what it is about. Not sure about year to year. Some of the small schools will most likely be 8 man in a couple years.

So Hancock went from a nonconference game next year with Marquette to crossover games with Gwinn and Munising. Looks about right for a Class B school.

Besides UP ranting and making unsubstantiated claims, to me this looks like a good fit. 9 games in this day and age with relatively minimal traveling, considering how some teams travel, makes sense. Ducking and running from Marquette and Kingsford? How? Why would Negaunee duck from Marquette? I don’t understand that and have watched a ton of football here in the UP. I did hear that this is for all sports which makes total sense. Scoop makes a lot of sense. At least Negaunee still plays a great crossover with Ishpeming. Losing that rivalry game would be worse than the Marquette game imo. Waiting to hear some facts when all the whining is over. Personally I don’t see it as that big of a deal. Kind of when the Great Lakes conference broke up in ‘75.

Unsubstantiated as in the AD's official reasoning for all of this? Makes sense to have the crossover games with Manistique instead of scheduling Ishpeming and Marquette on their own? It did not need to be mandatory. Leaving the two games open to schedule who they want is pretty simple and logical given the nature of the rivalries.

What I am saying is only unsubstantiated until I start posting documents.

You will understand when it does. I have a hard time believing a long time Miners fan doesn't really know this.

Call it unsubstantiated. Call me a ranter. Not one bit of what I am saying is untruthful. A few programs have this coming. I've held back embarrassing them publically for a long time. With this cowardly move. That's over.

The two ridiculous cross over games have crossed the line.

This was a very calculated move by those involved. Expect exposing it to be no less calculated.
