Do you think there would be any other upper LP teams willing to join this conference? Would they benefit?

Manistique should join this conference! And is the Soo going to be in both this conference and the GNC?

That's already a conference for basketball and other sports

This is ONLY a basketball conference!

St Ignace is in the NMFL Legacy for Football and they reportedly are going to be going 8 man as soon as their enrollment dictates
Newberry is a D8 school. Why would you join a conference with a D3 and D4 school as the only other participants?

Here is what should happen. The Mid Pen gives into the demands of the 5 schools who left which will include Gladstone being out.
Gladstone returns the GNC
Sault stays in GNC for football only as it has been.
Manistique stay in the MPC
Newberry joins the MPC in place of Gladstone.
Some of the MPC schools put their big boy pants on and start playing some more GNC schools to alleviate "scheduling problems".

Soo added Rogers City & Linclon-Alcona for football for 2018, and now Escanaba is showing week 5 open...

Lets just agree, that Matt Houle's grand plan has created a disaster for UP football.

The Soo is the definition of the "wussification of football", you can't beat schools your own size so you dumb down your schedule and slap yourself in the back for making the postseason only to get blown out in your first game.

Don't count on St.Ignace going to 8 man for 4+ years. Most of this year's team were sophmores and Juniors. And they have a large number coming up for the JR Saints. Enrollment is dropping but they have the numbers to stay in 11 man for a little while still.

Sounds like the Saints are down to about 20 suiting up now, that's jv & Varsity combined. Remember, they didn't have enough to field a jv team this year. The younger program has some numbers but most likely won't continue up to the higher levels. 8 man is a lot closer than people like to think down there. Football should go 8 man with Rudyard, Engadine, Cedarville, Pickford, Brimley, Rapid River and stay in the Straits Area Conference in all other sports while adding Manistique to the group.

Numbers are in the 30s right now, been to a few games this year. And the younger kids are there with former HS coach Barry Pierson coaching they are learning a lot. No doubt it will eventually happen but not for a while still.

Sorry Saint, but Iggy didn't have #'s in the 30's, it looked like they had about 19 suited up in Newberry Friday night and some of the kids don't even get on the field. Hopefully the ones coming back are better disciplined then the show that they put on Friday. I hear they led the state in unsportsmanlike penalties for the season. The train has left the building and the rebuilding will take many years....all ending in the 8 man game, most likely for the 2019 season.

Pat yourself on the back Longball, Newberry was the better team this year. What was unsportsmanlike was the Newberry announcer cursing over the loudspeaker at the referees, questioning the referees call ("What the hell was that call" repeated- so it wasn't a mistake...) And the loudmouth in the grey sweatshirt behind the Iggy bench, chirping the kids and the refs. Enjoy your season. Enjoy your exit next week. St Ignace will be back. Kids are kids and will do stupid things. The adults on the other hand show which program has class.

Sounds like some real animosity between St Ignace and Newberry. I wonder if there is a St Ignace person involved with the MHSAA pairings committee.

They should have been proud to win the game. When you haven't beaten a team in 10-15 years, you should be proud. Newberry was the better team, better athletes overall. But the adults acting the way they did. The language of the announcers/people in the booth, was over the top and uncalled for.
Good luck next week you had better score EVERY time you touch the ball. Because Frankfort is much, much better team, faster and play much better defense than Newberry.

Either way, play and cheer with class. It's a kids game. Better if the adults stay out of it.

Everything you said is correct Huskie, aside from the 10-15 years since last win against Iggy, I think it was 8 years ago and then they took off a few years, which was good for the Indians, because Iggy was dominate for the past 7 years. The discussion was about how many kids are out for football and the odds of 8 man coming in the future. On that discussion, my comments are correct. With that being said, from what I hear Iggy had at least 2 unsportsmanlike calls a game, seems like a lot
