Great Poll, the 3 voters are pretty solid on this, much more in tune with reality compared to UP Sports writers poll

Hi GNCrocks

Agree. This is a very credible poll. However the UPSSA poll is not un-realistic. Both have a head scratcher or two....and that is perfectly fine!! Maybe some re-matches in the playoffs will happen. This is a great time of the year. Looking forward to Esky-KHS Friday night. Get a seat early! Esky has had the Flivvs number the last couple years. Should be a good contest.

So will the Redman finally drop out of your poll? As a friendly reminder, the last time Hancock and Marquette played they had records and strength of schedule similar to this years teams and Hancock won easily 22-7. My Big 5 final poll:
1- Kingsford
2- Escanaba
3- Menominee
4- Hancock
5- Calumet
Others: Gladstone

You're talking about 1978? Marquette was 1-8 with no games against Traverse City schools and scored a grand total of 78 points the entire season. Not sure how that is similar to this year. Hancock is going to get their chance to see what they can do against the type of team Marquette plays in the first playoff game. I personally voted Marquette ahead of Hancock. I don't think its close quite honestly. Marquette just played a pretty good game without it's best offensive weapon against a good Menominee team. Let's see how Hancock does. Also heard from a little birdy that Hancock is playing Marquette next season. Both teams will return a lot of players from this year....

Oh please.... Hancock is not better than Gladstone and Calumet is most likely not either.

The reason why Calumet won is obvious, Gladstone wasn't going to take them serious and it was a long bus ride for them.
Had this game been played earlier in the season Gladstone would have easily won.

Seems to be a lot of bias against Gladstone around here. Would Gladstone lose to L'Anse? Not this year even if they played 100 times.
Menominee is about to put up 60 on Hancock...... It's their first and only real test of the year for the Bulldogs.

This game is about when you peak. Gladstone peaked in Week 3. No bias against Gladstone. Most of us here have been right about them all along. Gladstone is behind Hancock for one reason. They lost to Calumet to end the season. Hancock beat them. It would have been bias against Hancock if it was voted any other way.

I find this remark utter nonsense. did the Gladstone coach and players really think they were so good they would just roll over a good team like Calumet and didnt have to take them seriously.if that is true then lesson learned by all concerned.bet next season back in the GNC they will take every team very seriously.

If Meno doesn't turn it over 100 times, they do score 60, they are by far the better team

But they did turn it over 100 times.THAT DAY they were barely the better team. The field in many cases clears up the if's. North Central got a lot of the love here (not saying that's wrong) and yet CFFP beat them twice. If the "better " team loses ARE they the better team? Maybe...maybe not. That's why I love High School Tournaments...anything can happen. Will be fun to see a Menominee-Kingsford re-match.

Norway-West Iron will be a dandy also. Both physical teams but the Knights MAY be a bit more diverse. But at Nelson Field victories are hard to come by sometimes. This is a game where the chin straps need to be on tight.

Nobody should be getting any flack about how they vote in the 8 man poll. Between injuries, upsets and a league (BAC) who doesn't play any non conference games... it is a crap shoot to call. You have to give North Central credit for winning their big games late. I knew they would have all kinds of trouble with Forest Park in the weather and the fact that the Trojans are finally getting almost fully healthy. That said I picked Pickford as the top team this year. That pick is a guess. We haven't seen them against anyone other than the BAC, but they looked impressive in that conference.

Hancock ended up turning the ball over the same amount of times as the Maroons. 100.

Trust me...there was no flack intended. In this case the field untimately determined the better team this year. Sports at any level has many variables. In this particular case (n.c. vs cffp) there is no guesswork or suppositions. Many others are not that way. The poll on this site has been as good as anybodys. Round 2 should be great!

Really now...."Menominee turned the ball over 100 times"?! Hancock and Menominee both turned the ball over 4 times. Hancock led 26-14 in 4th quarter and fumbled the ball on their own 12 and 28. They also inexplicably went for it on 4th-and-1 from their own 27 and turned it over on downs. Hancock gave the game away and a playoff experienced Menominee team took advantage. Give Hancock credit, they are a team built for speed and play on a turf field and really still should have won this game. I expected Menominee to take advantage of the sloppy conditions and slow overgrown grass field. Good season Hancock and good luck Menominee!

Honestly I do not think there is a team that is THE team in 8 man this year. I think there are a lot of really good teams, but some matchup better with some then others. Forest Park strength is power running, Stephenson strength is pure speed, North Central strength is spreading the field, Rapid River's strength was they were excellent in close games. Pickford, Engadine, Cedarville.... all have strengths and weaknesses too. It's how you match up, what kind of conditions your playing in and of course how healthy you are at the time.

Forest Park beating North Central does not prove they were the best team in 8 man this year. It proves they matchup well against North Central this year. The Jets have trouble with the kind of game Forest Park plays.

You missed the part of Hancock turning it over on their own 12,28 and on downs at the 29... 4 turnovers total.

Bottom line. Hancock deserves some respect for this season and that performance against Menominee. Heads high Bulldogs. Look forward to more great things from that program. Hopefully this is just the first step for them.

Just to clarify...I wasn't saying CFFP was the best 8 man team...just the best between CFFP and N.C. Who WAS the best is an open discussion for sure.

Let's be clear about one thing, turnovers are the only reason that Menominee won that game. Had Hancock not completely self-destructed at the end of that game, they would have won. They out-played the Maroons most of the day. Nothing went right for them in last 8 minutes of that game, some was bad luck and some was really poor decisions. All that matters at this point is the Maroons move on and better clean things up or they will get blown out this weekend.

Let's be clear, the only reason Hancock lost that game is they scored less points than the Maroons. If's, but's, coulda's...usually end up with a loss. Nice season Hancock, not doubt about it, work hard in the offseason and see if you can keep it going for years to come.
