Well since the WSN message board is down for a few days, I will post here for a while. Had to cancel this week's pick 'ems as a result.

Friday September 22nd:

Sault Ste Marie (1-3) at Escanaba (3-1) - Great Northern Conference: Sault will get a win eventually in GNC play. Just not here.
Wausau East, WI (1-4) at Kingsford (2-1) - Non Conference: East is just waiting for next year when they are part of the WI GNC. Flivvers roll here.
Marquette (1-3) at Petoskey (2-2) - Non Conference: Why not? Petoskey hasn't wowed and Marquette is far better than last year.
Menominee (3-1) at Southern Door, WI (4-1) - Non Conference: GOTW. Southern Door is the best of the MONLPC Large. Only loss was to Wausau East.
Gladstone (4-0) at Ishpeming (2-2) - Mid Peninsula Conference: The one man army pulls away late. Surreal to see all the usual top dogs in the MPC struggling this year.
Negaunee (1-3) at Gwinn (2-2) - Mid Peninsula Conference: Could be a close game. Gwinn wins late.
Westwood (3-1) at Iron Mountain (0-4) - Mid Peninsula Conference: IM's long season continues.
Munising (2-2) at Manistique (0-4) - Non Conference: Manistique will be competitive eventually. Munising scores early and often.
Hancock (3-1) at Calumet (3-1) - WestPAC Conference: Won't be surprised if this goes the other way.
Gogebic (1-3) at Northland Pines, WI (0-5) - WestPAC Conference: See above.
West Iron County (3-1) at Houghton (0-4) - WestPAC Conference: The only sure lock pick in the West-PAC this year.
L'Anse (3-1) at Hurley, WI (3-1) - WestPAC Conference: See NLP-Gogebic.
Norway (4-0) at Bark River-Harris (3-1) - Mid Eastern Conference: Another good battle here in the MEC. Knights are a level or two above BR-H here.
Indian River Inland Lakes (1-3) at East Jordan (1-3) - NMFL Legacy Conference
Gaylord St Mary (4-0) at Tawas (1-3) - Non Conference
St Ignace (1-3) at Harbor Springs (2-2) - NMFL Legacy Conference: Because I don't know any better.
Frankfort (3-1) at Johannesburg-Lewiston (3-1) - Non Conference
Rapid River (4-0) vs Carney (2-2) at North Central - Western Eight Conference
Phillips, WI (3-2) at Forest Park (2-2) - Non Conference
North Dickinson (1-3) at Ontonagon (2-1) - Great Western Conference
Bellaire (1-3) at Engadine (3-1) - Bridge Alliance Conference
Rudyard (3-1) at Brimley (3-1) - Bridge Alliance Conference
Cedarville (4-0) at Pellston (0-4) - Bridge Alliance Conference
Onaway (1-3) at Charlton Heston (0-4) - Bridge Alliance Conference
Posen (1-3) at Pickford (4-0) - Bridge Alliance Conference

Postby Up Football Fan » Wed Sep 20, 2017 6:30 pm

Week 5 The end of the weekend will mean we're past the halfway point of the regular season already. Conference races are also heating up, as they should be. Leaves are also turning now in the U.P. This is the heart of football season in the U.P. Results of week 4 and year-to-date follow:

11-man:
week 4: 14 C, 3 W = 82.35%
Y.-T.-D.: 53 C, 24 W = 68.83%

8-man:
week 4: 8 C, 2 W = 80%
Y.-T.-D.: 29 C, 7 W = 80.56%

Totals:
week 4: 22 C, 5 W = 81.48%
Y.-T.-D.: 82 C, 31 W = 72.57%

MI vs WI:
week 4 (11): MI 1, WI 0
Y.-T.-D. (11): MI 10, WI 5
week 4 (8): MI 1, WI 0
Y.-T.-D. (8): MI 2, WI 0
Totals (all): MI 12, WI 5

UP vs LP:
week 4 (11): UP 1, LP 0
Y.-T.-D. (11): UP 4, LP 8
week 4 (8): UP 5, LP 1
Y.-T.-D. (8): UP 15, LP 1
Totals (all): UP 19, LP 9

Friday Sept. 22nd:

Sault Ste. Marie (1-3) at Escanaba (3-1)

The Eskymos outscored rival Marquette last week to begin GNC play. They don't want any slip-ups this week before they head into their huge clash against Menominee next week. The Blue Devils are struggling now, and look like they will finish winless in the GNC this year. The hosts win here. Eskymos 34, Blue Devils 7.

Wausau (WI) East (1-4) at Kingsford (2-1)

The Kingsford defense shined last week in it's shutout win over Sault Ste. Marie to start GNC play. The Lumberjacks are an independent this year and are hoping to join the Wisconsin GNC next year. They are stuggling this year, especially on defense. The hosts win going away. Flivvers 28, Lumberjacks 6.

Marquette (1-3) at Petoskey (2-2)

Both teams here have faced Escanaba this year, with the Northmen winning 14-7 and the Redmen losing 28-45. Normally you can never simply go by looking at those kind of scores when comparing teams. But the Redmen have had issues on defense this year. And playing on the road will not help them this week as they lose again. Northmen 35, Redmen 14.

Menominee (3-1) at Southern Door (WI) (4-1)

This week the Maroons finish their non-conference tour thru the Wisconsin teams. They finally get to play a Michigan school, and GNC team, next week. The Eagles lost to lowly Wausau East this year. That should tell you that their record is very deceiving. The visitors get a win here. Maroons 36, Eagles 13.

Gladstone (4-0) at Ishpeming (2-2)

These are the last 2 undefeated teams left in the MPC this season. Gladstone is also the most difficult team left on the Hematites schedule. A win this week and Ishpeming most likely will make the playoffs this year. The Braves are on their own mission, which is to win the MPC in their first season. This will be a good game that comes down to the last drive. The visitors sneak way with a close victory. Braves 21, Hematites 20.

Negaunee (1-3) at Gwinn (2-2)

Both teams here were slammed bad by Gladstone, and both have defeated Iron Mountain. Negaunee is in playoff mode already if they want to get back to the playoffs this year. They have improved some this year, despite being relative young. Gwinn has some experienced players which helps them. This should be a good game, with the home team getting the win. Modeltowners 28, Miners 20.

Westwood (3-1) at Iron Mountain (0-4)

The Patriots hung in there, but lost a tough game to unbeaten Gladstone last week. They still have the playoffs in mind this season. The Mountaineers look like they are playing for next year already. They were shut out last week. Their only hope for a win will be against Mansitique. The visitors get the win here. Patriots 27, Mountaineers 7.

Munising (2-2) at Manistique (0-4)

The Mustangs lost a hearbreaker to rival Newberry last week. They only have an 8 game schedule this year, so they can only lose one other game this year if the want to automatically qualify for the playoffs. Manistique is headed for a winless season this year. Look for the visitors to get an easy win here. Mustangs 34, Emeralds 6.

Hancock (3-1) at Calumet (3-1)

The Copper Kings do not seem to be close to the team they were last year. They still may make the playoffs, but nothing is guaranteed this year, especially in the balanced WPC this year. Hancock lost last week, but they are still very much in the running for the league title and a playoff berth this year. The visitors get a late TD to overcome the hosts in this one. Bulldogs 27, Copper Kings 24.

Gogebic (1-3) at Northland Pines (WI) (0-5)

The Miners appear to be improving every week so far, even in their loss to West Iron last week. The Eagles have simply struggled all season long. They can't seem to stop anyone on defense. The Miners have lost to 3 teams with only 1 loss each. Look for the visitors to get win no. 2 here. Miners 24, Eagles 20.

West Iron County (3-1) at Houghton (0-4)

The Wykons had more of a struggle from Gogebic last than was anticipated. That might have refocused the Wykons to not take any team lightly this year. Houghton is a team that most will overlook. A winless season is probably in the books for the Gremlins this year. West Iron gets win no. 4 here. Wykons 29, Gremlins 7.

L'Anse (3-1) at Hurley (WI) (3-1)

The Purple Hornets are one of 2 unbeaten teams left in the WPC (West Iron being the other). There are 5 teams with dreams of winning the league this year. Hurley has already beaten league favorite Calumet this year. The Midgets always play good at home. They do again here to get another win. Midgets 27, Purple Hornets 14.

Norway (4-0) at Bark River-Harris (3-1)

The Broncos are sure happy to be playing at home after 2 lengthy road trips in the last 3 weeks. Their reward is perhaps the top team in the MEC this season, Norway. The Knights hit the road for the first time all season, although it's not much of a road trip anyway. Norway has looked solid every week so far. There is no reason to think that will change this week as the Knights get a big win here. Knights 26, Broncos 6.

Inland Lakes (1-3) at East Jordan (1-3)

The Bulldogs look to be regressing since their open week win over St. Ignace. The Red Devils haven't look like giant killers this season either, but they have looked competitive this season. The hosts are playing better right now and they should get a win this week. Red Devils 18, Bulldogs 16.

Gaylord St. Mary (4-0) at Tawas (1-3)

The Braves got waxed bad last week by a very good Frankenmuth team. This week's opponent is not as good, but is still an unbeaten team. St. Mary had some issues before putting away Whittemore-Prescott. There should be no issues this week on the road. Snowbirds 38, Braves 8.

St. Ignace (1-3) at Harbor Springs (2-2)

The Saints finally got into the win column last week by beating East Jordan. The Rams also won last week besting Inland Lakes 34-0. The Saints lost to Inland Lakes in week 1 this year. So far this year the Rams have played more consistant football. Because of that, they get the win this week. Rams 19, Saints 12.

Frankfort (3-1) at Johannesburg-Lewiston (3-1)

Frankfort may very well be the 2nd best Class D team in the state this year. The Panthers lost in week 2 to Muskegon Catholic Central. The Cardinals got a nice win over Charlevoix last week. But the Panthers are the class of small schools in northern lower Michigan. They get the win here. Panthers 40, Cardinals 20.

Rapid River (4-0) vs Carney-Nadeau (2-2) at North Central

The Wolves had a long trip but they did get a much needed win at Wisconsin Deaf. That looks like the only win they will have (on the field) this year. They are still building toward the future with some nice young players. Rapid River is the most charmed team of all 8-man teams this year. They won't need any luck this week as they should get an easy win. Rockets over Wolves.

Phillips (WI) (3-2) at Forest Park (2-2)

While still suffering injuries, the Trojans took it to Superior Central last week. If the Trojans can get healthy, that will be bad news for any Forest Park opponents. The visitings Loggers are feeling their way thru their first season of 8-man football. This is the 2nd of 3 games against Michigan teams this year for Phillips. This will also be their 2nd loss to Michigan teams as the hosts get a win. Trojans over Loggers.

North Dickinson (1-3) at Ontonagon (2-1)

The Glads have to be upset over losing in the final minutes to Rapid River last week. This week they should be able to get back on track by hosting the Nordics. North Dickinson had big issues with Stephenson last week. The long trip this week will not help either. Gladiators over Nordics.

Bellaire (1-3) at Engadine (3-1)

The Battle of the Eagles is here this week. Engadine cruised thru an easy win over Pellston last week. Bellaire broke thru and won a BAC game for the lower Michigan schools over the U.P. schools last week by beating Brimley. Don't look for Bellaire to do it 2 weeks in a row. Engadine Eagles over Bellaire Eagles.

Rudyard (3-1) at Brimley (3-1)

The Bays had their starting QB ejected in it's loss to Bellaire last week, which means he will also the game this week. Also missing is the Bays starting RB due to a neck injury. Those missing players won't bode well for the hosts this week. The Bulldogs should get win no. 4 in a row this week. Bulldogs over Bays

Cedarville (4-0) at Pellston (0-4)

The Trojans are in stretch where they play 5 very bad BAC teams. This is no. 4 of those games, and it just might be the worst team in the entire conference. Pellston is really reeling again this year. One can only wonder if they will ever be able to be competitive in football again. Trojans over Hornets.

Onaway (1-3) vs Charlton Heston Academy (0-4) (at Grayling)

The Patriots can only look forward to facing Pellston in week 9 this year. All other games they will be the underdog. Onaway is just glad this is not a U.P. team they face this week. It can only mean they have a chance at a win. The visitors get a win here. Cardinals over Patriots.

Posen (1-3) at Pickford (4-0)

No one is quite sure what to make of this Pickford team this year. They have played (and beaten) 3 realtively poor teams so far this year. This week is another case of that. The visiting Vikings have lost to 3 U.P. teams already. Don't look for that streak to end here. Panthers over Vikings.

Saturday Sept. 23rd:

Newberry (3-1) at Lake Linden-Hubbell (0-3)

At least the Lakes did not lose last week, as they had the week off. They were oh so close in their last game as they lost in the last few seconds to Munising. Now they welcome the pass happy Indians to town. Newberry snuck by rival Munising last week 24-22. This should be a close game next to Torch Lake. Look for the visitors to get out of town with a win. Indians 26, Lakes 19.

Stephenson (4-0) at Superior Central (1-3)

The Eagles look to be on cruise control right now. They head to Eben Junction and should get win no. 5 on the year. Superior Central has some nice talented players. The Cougars are just caught in a season where the Western 8 is a very deep league. The visitors win here. Eagles over Cougars.

Re: 2017 Week 5 Predictions/Results

Postby upfootball » Fri Sep 22, 2017 9:00 am

Last week was better at 19-6 but its that damn NMFL conference that is killing me. I can't figure them out! This week I give you a perfect example of why you don't rank teams by record. The example is in the GNC non conference games this week. Wausau East is a Class A size school and the will play with a 1-4 record against Kingsford. They have played a very tough schedule with some excellent teams that destroyed them. Their only win came against small Class C school Southern Door. That team plays Menominee this week. Southern Door is 4-1. They have 4 wins against Class C teams. So if East and Southern Door were in the UP would you rank Door above East? You shouldn't. East is the better team. They don't play the same types of schedules. Records are only as good as who you play. Way too many good games this week to give you a game of the week. There are a handful of them. Go to the one closest to your area.

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 22nd

Sault Ste Marie (1-3) at Escanaba (3-1) - Great Northern Conference
Escanaba broke out last week and looked a little like that team we thought they would be. One thing that has caught my attention the last few years with Esky. If they find something that works you can bet they are going to attack you with it relentlessly. Last week against Marquette around the left end worked quite nicely thank you. The Mo's only problem is sometimes they go through entire games without finding that play that works. That usually ends up with a Petoskey head scratcher. The Soo is over-matched in the GNC this year. The Blue Devils will need to pick their game up in their program to compete in this conference and quite frankly in their Division should they want playoff success. They are a big school and have the potential to get there. Being in this conference is a good thing for them. They just need to put the work in over the long haul.
Escanaba 47 Sault Ste Marie 7

Wausau East (1-4) at Kingsford (2-1) - Non Conference
Wausau East rolls into town with a 1-4 record. East is a Class A school and has played some tough teams. You can't just go by record. This team has some talent and can give you a fight if your not ready. Ask Southern Door. Kingsford is playing good football. They have been improving as the season has progressed and getting a lot of kids some quality game experience. This is an ideal way to build depth and get your football team better. The Flivvers haven't scored a point in the second half since week one. No big deal. They have averaged a 32-0 lead at halftime and the reserves have gotten great game experience... and they have improved tremendously in that time. Flivvs look to keep refining their game. They want to peak at the end of the season. They are trending in the right direction so far.
Kingsford 34 Wausau East 14

Menominee (3-1) at Southern Door (4-1) - Non Conference
Interesting matchup. The Maroons finally are at the end of a ridiculous stretch of 5 games against Wisconsin teams because finding Michigan teams willing and available to play them is tough. Last week was the tale of two halves of football. The Maroons were sleep walking through the first half against Medford and looked sluggish going into halftime as Medford was playing right with them. Second half a different story. Maroons made big play after big play and destroyed Medford, outscoring them 41-0. What Maroon team shows up this week? I think the second half team. They go into enemy territory where the opponent is feeling really good about their 4-1 record and would like nothing more than to put a feather in their cap with a win over Menominee. Ain't gonna happen. This is Class B versus Class C football here. Maroons schedule is much tougher than Southern Door's. Maroons show up motivated.
Menominee 48 Southern Door 14

Marquette (1-3) at Petoskey (2-2) - Non Conference
Marquette battled hard last week and their offense seems to be picking it up a bit lately. The defense which had been looking so strong took a step back last week though as Esky just ran all over them. Now they get the task of trying to beat a team that gave Esky it's only loss on the road. Petoskey is a 2-2 but has been playing a bit better than expected. Last week they lost to TC West who is unbeaten and a pretty good football team. This has the potential to be a great game. If this game is at Marquette I pick the Redmen. At Petoskey is a different story.
Petoskey 20 Marquette 17

Gladstone (4-0) at Ishpeming (2-2) - Mid Peninsula Conference
This is the last chance for an MPC team to put the brakes on Gladstone rolling through the conference this year. The Braves only have one conference game left after this and its against winless Iron Mountain. Last week the Braves were in a dog fight with a pesky young Westwood team. The Braves only game to this point that was not a mercy rule game. Ishpeming is trying to find this years team identity still. They have the look of a team that can break out and get on a role. They have talent, but it is young in certain areas and an injury here and there have hurt the overall team development early on. I consider Ishpeming dangerous. They can explode at any time. Should be one of the most interesting matchups we have this week. I will take Gladstone in another struggle for them.
Gladstone 28 Ishpeming 22

Negaunee (1-3) at Gwinn (2-2) - Mid Peninsula Conference
Gwinn played a hard nosed game with a good Norway team last week. The Modeltowners were up on the Knights in the first half, but wore down in the second half as they just couldn't do it for all 4 quarters. Negaunee got a much needed win last week in a big way. The young Miners exploded for 35 points before the 3rd quarter was over and flattened struggling Iron Mountain. The Miners are going to need another effort like that to pull off a win here. Guess what? I'm going with the "upset". Negaunee and it's roster of 40 kids to wear down a very gritty Gwinn team.
Negaunee 30 Gwinn 20

Westwood (3-1) at Iron Mountain (0-4) - Mid Peninsula Conference
Why do you not pay all that much attention to records. Westwood lost last week, but is there another game on their schedule that showed us what kind of team they are? The Patriots showed grit and proved they are for real last week in a loss to a school that will be two divisions ahead of them in the playoffs this season. Plus Westwood is a pretty young team. I like where they are going. Iron Mountain just doesn't look like Iron Mountain. It's really strange to see. The Mountaineers are making way too many mistakes on the football field right now. I actually think the effort level is so high with this team that mistakes are happening because of it... if that makes sense. This is a proud football program and nobody wants to have the results they are having right now. Especially the players. I feel for them.
Westwood 32 Iron Mountain 14

Munising (2-2) at Manistique (0-4) - Non Conference
You know this Munising team is growing on me. They have two losses. Both to really good teams. Last week it took a last second field goal for Newberry to knock off Munising at home no less. This Munising team has a shot at the playoffs this year, but it will not be easy. The schedule is very tough. This fortunately will not be one of those tough games for them. Manistique isn't anywhere close to where they need to be yet. The Emeralds haven't been competitive for years. I like the change of coaches this year to get back to hard nosed football, but they are a ways away yet.
Munising 36 Manistique 14

Hancock (3-1) at Calumet (3-1) - WestPAC Conference
Tough game for both these programs last week. Calumet was down 6-0 to Houghton at halftime? Wow that was a shocker. The Copper Kings rebounded to win but have to feel less than thrilled about that performance at home. Hancock was nipped by L'Anse last week in a tough loss on the road. The Bulldogs struggled to stop a team from just grinding them to death in a 3 yards and a cloud of dust keep away game. Hancock has the offense to roll with anyone in the WestPAC, but they better figure out that defense quickly or the offense will not see the ball much when other teams mimic what L'Anse did to them. Calumet can pound the rock. I like the Copper Kings here to play keep away.
Calumet 28 Hancock 21

Gogebic (1-3) at Northland Pines (0-5) - WestPAC Conference
Gogebic played a helluva game last week giving West Iron County everything they wanted and more. The Wykons didn't finish off the Miners until there were seconds left in the game when they were up by only a single point. Northland Pines is so hard to figure out. They are winless yet look pretty good sometimes. Other times they look terrible. Are they just finding a way to lose? They should win a game soon. Houghton is next, but I think they surprise Gogebic here. I don't know why. Call it a hunch.
Northland Pines 26 Gogebic 20

West Iron County (3-1) at Houghton (0-4) - WestPAC Conference
West Iron County escaped last week by the hair of their chinny chin chin. Gogebic was pesky in their game last week and gave the Wykons a nail biter. WIC survived though. They gutted it out. Good teams do that. Houghton was impressive last week. They gave Calumet a game. The Gremlins have 14 kids on their team and every one of them play hard. I have a lot of respect for each of those kids. The rest of the school doesn't seem to enjoy football, but they do. West Iron should win here, but the Gremlins will fight until the final horn.
West Iron County 33 Houghton 8

L'Anse (3-1) at Hurley (3-1) - WestPAC Conference
What a nice win for the Purple Hornets last week. They beat a talents Hancock team when they turned the game into a 3 yards and a cloud of dust type of game. It was a good plan and it worked. Now L'Anse is sitting in a good position in the hunt for the WestPAC title. Hurley got another big win over Northland Pines last week. Seemed to be more of a shootout this time. The Midgets have one loss in the WestPAC and need this game to get in the hunt for the WestPAC title. Should be a great game. I think Hurley gets back in it with a tough win over a good L'Anse team.
Hurley 20 L'Anse 14

Norway (4-0) at Bark River-Harris (3-1) - Mid Eastern Conference
This may be yet another very good game up here this week. Bark River had an impressive win over a good Illinois team on the road last week. The Broncos worked on their pass defense because they came out of that game with three interceptions. This week Bark River will try to even their MEC record but it wont be easy. They have to face what I think is the conference favorite in Norway. Norway won a bit of a dog fight with a tough Gwinn team last week. The Knights were down early but wore down Gwinn. Norway has a balanced team. They are hard to stay ahead of for all 4 quarters. Should be a great game, but I have to go with Norway.
Norway 24 Bark River-Harris 14

Indian River Inland Lakes (1-3) at East Jordan (1-3) - NMFL Legacy Conference
Let me be the first to say I stink at picking the NMFL this year. It was so much easier when St Ignace dominated that conference! Last week East Jordan gave St Ignace its first win. Ok probably not the proper wording for that but you get the point. Indian River beat the Saints earlier this year for their only win. They haven't been very good since. How do you pick this stuff? East Jordan? I have no idea. Whatever.
East Jordan 8 Indian River 6

Gaylord St Mary (4-0) at Tawas (1-3) - Non Conference
Gaylord St Mary stayed unbeaten last week but it wasn't easy. The Snowbirds were in a tight game with Whittemore-Prescott. Tawas is actually a Class B school. So tiny D school scheduled Class B? Impressive. Tawas is only 1-3, but they face a lot tougher teams than the NMFL plays on a regular basis. Still Tawas lost to Whittemore-Prescott. Have to take the Snowbirds, but expect a close game.
IGaylord St Mary 14 Tawas 6

St Ignace (1-3) at Harbor Springs (2-2) - NMFL Legacy Conference
St Ignace won its first game last week. Looked good doing it too. Could the reloaded Saints be figuring it out? Harbor Springs has had a tough schedule. Tough for the NFML anyway. Not entirely sure how to judge them but they are definitely capable. I am picking them at home in this one.
Harbor Springs 22 St Ignace 20

Frankfort (3-1) at Johannesburg-Lewiston (3-1) - Non Conference
Worst pick last week. Picked Joburg to lose to Charlevoix. Joburg crushed them. Lesson learned. So I have to pick Joburg no matter what this week. Who do they play? Frankfort? Screw that. Take Frankfort.
Frankfort 34 Joburg 18

Rapid River (4-0) vs Carney-Nadeau (2-2) at North Central - Western Eight Conference
Rapid River Rockets. Does this team just know how to win or what? They seem to get timely kickoff returns and turnovers and eek out win after win. You would think...maybe they got lucky there but they do it again week after week. Amazing. Carney got a nice win in Wisconsin last week to even their record and actually get the first win of the season not by forfeit. Great job by the Wolves. The Rockets are clearly the better team here.
Rapid River 44 Carney-Nadeau 6

Phillips (3-2) at Forest Park (2-2) - Western Eight Conference
Phillips is playing its second of three UP teams this season. The Logrollers are learning the 8 man and quite frankly doing a good job at it coming in 3-2. Forest Park is back to .500 and slowly healing some injuries. They have slowly gotten players back and are playing them on the defensive side only now based on the articles I have read. Good news for the Trojans. They played a great game last week demolishing what looked like a pretty decent Superior Central team. I see them winning here.
Forest Park 52 Phillips 14

North Dickinson (1-3) at Ontonagon (2-1) - Western Eight Conference
North Dickinson is still getting used to this 8 man thing. Stephenson put a whooping on them last week. This week the task doesn't get much easier as they face an Ontonagon team that beat North Central a few weeks back. Ontonagon fell just short last week as they failed to score in the second half against Rapid River and lost by 4 points. A kick return and 3 interceptions did them in. Didn't Forest Park suffer a similar fate against Rapid River? Crazy. Ontonagon will look for improvements in the second half of games from here on out. They get it here.
Ontonagon 38 North Dickinson 20

Bellaire (1-3) at Engadine (3-1) - Bridge Alliance Conference
The young team in Bellaire got its first win of the season last week knocking off previously unbeaten Brimley in a fantastic game. Good for the Eagles. They have taken their fair share of lumps with their youth over the last few years. Engadine got back to their winning ways last week with an easy win over Pellston. This one will not be as easy, but Engadine will still win the battle of the Eagles.
Engadine 46 Bellaire 12

Rudyard (3-1) at Brimley (3-1) - Bridge Alliance Conference
The magic finally ended for Brimley last week. The Bays had some inspiring victories in the first three weeks and had that mojo to win tight games in the end. They lost a tight game in the end last week and with that the mojo may have left the building. 4 of the last 5 games on their schedule are going to be very tough, starting with Rudyard. The Bulldogs lost a good game to Cedarville to start the season and have been on easy street since. This should be their best test since week one. They pass.
Rudyard 44 Brimley 22

Cedarville (4-0) at Pellston (0-4) - Bridge Alliance Conference
Cedarville is unbeaten and will be in contention for the BAC crown this year. Pellston is winless and will remain that way the rest of the year unless they beat Charlton Heston. No further discussion needed.
Cedarville 64 Pellston 6

Onaway (1-4) at Charlton Heston (0-4) - Bridge Alliance Conference
Onaway has one win on the season over one of the worst team in the conference. Charlton Heston is one of the worst teams in the conference this season. Win number two for Onaway.
Onaway 50 Charlton Heston 8

Posen (1-3) at Pickford (4-0) - Bridge Alliance Conference
Pickford is a great team. Deserving of being in the top 5 of the 8 man poll in the UP? Yes. I just don't have them in mine yet because the WEC is so damn good. Doesn't mean they wont prove me wrong down the road. They are doing everything right so far. Posen won this conference two years ago. Seems like 50 years ago at this point. Pickford rolls.
Pickford 58 Posen 8

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 23rd

Newberry (3-1) at Lake Linden-Hubbell (0-3) - Mid Eastern Conference
On top of Newberry being a known good team up here we have also established they have a kicker who can make a tough field goal under pressure. Newberry topped Munising with a field goal in the final seconds to win 24-22 last week. What a great game. This week Newberry has to travel to Lake Linden. The Lakes are winless but I wouldn't want anything to do with them. They lost to Munising by a single score on the road. They lost to two of the WestPAC favorites. The Lakes are tough, they just played a tough schedule. This is also only their second home game. I smell upset.
Lake Linden-Hubbell 22 Newberry 14

Stephenson (4-0) at Superior Central (1-3) - Western Eight Conference
Stephenson has been nothing short of impressive. Its hard to believe they lost a good coach in the off-season. Let's give Coach Carlson some credit here. Yes the Eagles are talented, but he has also done a great job coaching in a tough situation. I am impressed. He also doesn't seem to run up the score, which is even tougher not to do in 8 man.... and uncommon with some of today's new age coaches. This coach is one to watch. So far, I like him from the outside looking in. Superior Central has a good team. They are just in a brutal conference. Stephenson rolls.
Stephenson 58 Superior Central 12

With the Wisconsin forum down its weird not to be able to keep up with any scores here in the Cheese State.

So bear with me if I reread these scores over and over ; )

The Phillips Loggers vs Forest Park Trojans is probably the best eight-man football game I have watched so far, it included something called defense nobody was running down the field like Cheetahs.

Clintonville has crashed and burned. Oconto Falls is probably their best shot to win this year.
